Become a Good Problem Solver

Have you ever wished that all your problems would go away in a snap of a finger? Problems, especially complex ones wear us down and make us feel out of control. When we get overwhelmed with too much burden, we tend to retreat, cut corners, and find the easiest way out even if we are aware that it’s not the right thing to do.

We just want to quickly fix things the best way we know how; but although we’re acting out of good intentions, we should accept the fact that it’s not that simple to untangle from difficult situations. Actively avoid these negative habits and replace them with problem-solving strategies instead.

Problem-solving is a very useful skill especially during certain circumstances that require you to think quickly on your feet. Here are key points to take into consideration to become a more effective problem solver:

Reflection

Doing regular daily reflections will help keep the balance and save you a lot of time and effort by centering all your energies in positive and productive activities instead of spending time trying to suppress negative patterns.

Persistence and Commitment

Ensuring solutions are put into practice even when exposed to outside influences is the way to go. Times are changing and being flexible and ready to adapt to new challenges will make you become a better problem-solver.

Evaluate

Having an open mind and always viewing things objectively definitely helps in creating logical solutions. When solutions do not work for the first time, retrace and evaluate the steps you’ve made and tweak strategies when needed and be prepared to consider alternative solutions. Constantly test your proficiency and leverage successful results.

Coping

Sometimes it’s best to accept things the way they are instead of focusing our time and effort in trying to fix something. If the situation is becoming too much of a burden and already disrupting the sense of normality of everyday life, then it’s time to let it go and direct your attention to more important issues. One day you will reflect, look back and realise you’ve made the right decision
