In this complicated world, it’s easy for our minds to get tainted by the various sources that surround us. It’s also very common for us to fall into the trap of being influenced and dictated by mainstream society. As a result, we develop inadmissible habits that interrupt our growth and development and give us a hard time to overcome habitual skepticism. For us to reach our goals and succeed at a much greater rate, it’s very critical for us to integrate values to gracefully navigate through life.

What’s in Your Core?

Examine yourself. What are your beliefs? What are your aspirations? Have you discovered your purpose? If your answer is no, then now is the perfect time to explore and discern your core! We are all unique individuals, so each of us would have completely different answers to these questions. Values formation has a strong correlation to success and happiness. So the more you know what your driving force is, the closer you are in defining what core values you need to help get you a step closer towards attaining your goals.

“Our core values and business ethics will always be paramount in all that we do, and we are always looking to do the right thing and settle claims fairly and accurately.”

― Tricia Griffith

How are core values formed?

There are hundreds of values formed based on an individual’s desired self-image. However, it’s important for us to understand that values are not chosen. The very core values are not merely selected from a list of these personal values - they need to be discovered. We all need to go through a certain process of thorough evaluation in order for these values to be revealed to us. When the time comes, we will eventually be well-aware of the values that truly represent our core essence. We need to fully acknowledge and live by them consistently on a daily basis, otherwise, we might feel lost and live an incongruent life.

How do core values help?

Your values help you make sound decisions. Decision-making can be a little tough sometimes, and each decision entails certain consequences. We have the freedom to pursue our goals in life and to exercise control over things that are significant to us, so we need to be more mindful and use this freedom the right way. Also, knowing what key values to priorities will also help in driving your thoughts and decisions and not be sidetracked.

When you apply for a job, you will be assessed in a certain way that enables the employer or hiring manager to look at your personal and professional background in light of the organisation’s principles. This helps them determine if you will be a good fit for the job and the organisation. And when you finally get the job, use your personal values in the workplace, aside from abiding by your organisation’s core values. They can definitely be aligned for the purpose of reaching your peak performance at work!

“With the right people, culture, and values, you can accomplish great things.”

― Tricia Griffith

Get out of your comfort zone and disrupt some patterns if you have to! The journey to discovering and sticking to values requires serious effort. Finding out core values is one thing, and reaffirming them is another. So keep your focus! Have faith in yourself. Allow your core values to guide you. Try your best not to drift away from the goals you’ve set and you will certainly achieve a sense of contentment and fulfillment in life.

“Live your days on the positive side of life, in tune with your most treasured values. And in each moment you'll have much to live for.”

― Ralph Marston

“Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals, and values are in balance.”

― Brian Tracy

“Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values.”

― Ayn Rand
